In what is hardly a ringing endorsement of her recent film Van Helsing, Kate Beckinsale has defended appearing in the big screen flop by saying she only did it to change her image from "motherly" to sexy. If it seems that lovely Kate is insecure about her looks, she has good reason. Not only did her Pearl Harbor director say she wasn't beautiful, but she's also had her looks repeatedly slammed by people who claims she's gotten a bad boob job, and she's received jabs from studio bosses about her lack of sexiness as well. When her future husband was casting Underworld he received flak from studio head who didn't think the Brit actress was hot enough for the big screen role. The 31-year-old actress was even repeatedly referred to as motherly. All that that played into her decision to take the role of sexy vampire hunter Anna Valerious in Van Helsing. One of the reasons I actually decided to do Van Helsing was that people didn't think I could play sexy. Len told me much later that when he wanted me to do Underworld, all the executives at the studio, 'But she's just not sexy - she's like someone's mom.'"
